Prior to the official announcement of the date
and venue for The Future Awards Africa (TFAA)
2013, the project’s Central Working Committee
(CWC) has announced the official clothiers for
the event, headlined by one of Africa’s most
respected designers and fashion brands, Deola
Sagoe.
“As a proudly African brand, we are inspired by
the work that The Future Awards Africa is doing
across the continent, empowering a generation
of young Africans in both the private and public
sector,” said Deola Sagoe, owner of the
eponymous label, and who will also be
presenting The Future Awards Africa prize in
Fashion & Style. “We are glad to partner with
this event, and are proud of the uplifting stories
of African innovation, entrepreneurship and
achievement that it brings to the fore.”
Ms Sagoe is the official design partner for
female guests while the Mai Atafo-led
fashion label MAI will be the official design
partner for the male guests. The dress code for
this year’s event is black tie, with guests

“We are excited to work with Ms Sagoe, whose
drive and success has acted as a beacon for
generations of young Nigerian and African
designers and also pleased that she will have
the honour of announcing this year’s winner for
the Fashion & Style Prize,” said Adebola
Williams, the chief operating officer of TFAA.
“Along with Ohimai Atafo, who is an integral
part of our process as head of the Central
Working Committee, we look forward to an
evening of elegance with a distinguished cast of

Kuti in the movie “October 1”, is a fashion
visionary with a unique approach to her craft
that has endeared her to fans and followers all

African techniques, Deola’s designs present a
unique vision and attitude for the modern
woman. A mother of three who studied at the

With excitement building up to The Future
Awards Africa 2013, the Central Working
Committee (CWC) has unveiled the shortlist of
three nominees per category for the Awards
scheduled to take place soon.
“It has been an intense period of judging and
review,” says Chude Jideonwo, Executive
Director of The Future Project. “After the
nominations, there was a period of intense
research and verification of nominees before the
final selection process, thanks to the
Independent Audit Committee and the Board of
Judges. They worked tirelessly over two months
and are thoroughly proud of the resulting final
nominees.”
Members of the Independent Audit Committee
include the chief executive of EbonyLife TV, Mo
Abudu; politician Jimi Agbaje; Stanbic IBTC
director Yemi Osindero; and LEAP Africa founder

“However, the vetting process has been
daunting, and the intense scrutiny that
successful nominees have gone through has
been illuminating for them as well. We stressed
the importance of a combination of structure,
quantifiable measures of success and impact, to
get the most inspiring and worthy to rise to the

Recognised by the World Bank last year as ‘The Nobel Prize for Young Africans’, The Future Awards Africa, which is in its 8th season, is presented in partnership with the African Union Commission and Microsoft.
“The future of Africa is in the hands of brilliant young minds such as these. Hence, our endowment, which looks to the long term, will not only support the sustainability of this important prize, but also encourage up and coming young African leaders, leaders who
understand that they have a duty to stimulate this continent’s economic and social development with creative solutions” said Tony Elumelu.
Mr. Elumelu also hosted 10 honourees for the African Young Person of the Year Prize at an exclusive reception and mentorship session at the Heirs Holdings office, Lagos, Nigeria on
Friday, 16 August 2013 purposely scheduled to coincide with the week of the International Day of the Youth.
The honourees are drawn from across the continent and include Africa’s youngest billionaire, Uganda’s Ashish J. Thakkar, and Malawi’s inventor, William Kamkwambe, as well as Nigeria’s music entrepreneurs, Peter

Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) To Empower Six Million Youth

Posted on Updated on

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has expressed hopes to fully develop the capacity of about six million Nigerian youth through the Integrated Youth Empowerment Programme (IYEP) launched
with the Mara Foundation within 12 months.
In collaboration with Mara Foundation, the FGN said it hopes to lessen the number of youth unemployment across the country. Speaking on the programme, Special Adviser to
President Goodluck Jonathan on Youth
Empowerment, Ambassador Obinna Adim explained that the partnership between the Government and Mara Foundation was essentially to proffer a formidable base for youth empowerment in the country, adding that the initiative aims to provide solutions for youth leadership and development.
“The mentorship programme will serve as a provider of non-formal education aimed at bridging the gap between school and life after school; enhancing young people’s potential for success by making them approach life as
entrepreneurs,” Adim said.
Adim noted that the support services were expected to transform business ideas of entrepreneurs into profitable and thriving business entities that would employ other Nigerians and contribute to local, state and
national economies.
OAN, I am rooting for the 32 year old Billionaire and Founder/CEO of Mara Group/Mara Foundation, Ashish J. Thakkar to take home the first ever Future Awards “African Young Person of the Year Award”……ijs.
