The 2013 model casting for the premier music
and fashion show, Music Meets Runway (MMR),
which held last Saturday 21st September, 2013,
was a tremendous success with a huge turnout
of over 3000 young aspiring female and male
models as against last year’s 1000 models.
The event was held in the Expo Hall at the Eko
Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. This is
the latest in a series of campaigns lined up for
the third edition of the Music Meets Runway,
which has been tagged, ‘The Icons Edition’.
What a way to start!
The Judges were said to have a hard time making up
their minds in selecting the finalists, as the
quality and quantity of the respondents to the
casting call announced earlier that week was so
Speaking at the event, Jennifer Olize, the CEO of
Le Reve Events, the Creative Director behind the
show appreciated the models and informed
them to check their emails for notification of the
successful qualification for the show, Jennifer
continued. ‘We will get back to you to inform
you if you are selected and as for those who
where not successful this year, thank you for
attending and please do try again next.’
Miss Nkem Okorafor, the current “Face” of MMR
2012, who was in attendance said ” whoever
emerges the winner will have the course of her
life changed forever “. This year’s winner will go
on to become the new “Face” of MMR for a year
and will also participate in a major International
fashion week in 2014.
Speaking on passing her crown, Miss Okorafor
continued “being the Face of MMR has really
opened lots of doors for me, it took me four
years to be where I am today. The upcoming
models now look to me as a role model, which
feels good. I was recently cast as the lead
model “The Golden Girl” in this years campaign
shoot and video, later this year I will be
travelling out to participate in the Mercedes
Benz Fashion Week. I have mixed feelings on
passing the crown as the year has gone so fast,
but I’m happy that I’ve laid a good legacy for my
successor, I will be delighted to see who will
emerge the winner as the Face of MMR 2013 and
carry on where I left off in promoting the MMR

So Lagos, LET THE BIG BOYS PLAY!
The Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar
Association has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) not to end its ongoing strike which started on July 1, 2013 unless its demands are met by the Federal Government(FG). Chairman of the branch, Mr. Monday Ubani, at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, said the union should stick to its demands to avoid the need
for embarking on another round of strike action in few months time.
The demands of the university teachers include the N87bn which the Federal Government agreed to pay
to them in 2009 as arrears of their earned allowances.
Ubani, while fielding questions from journalists, said, “I will like ASUU not to call off the strike for now so that this issue can be addressed once and
for all. They should not renege on the agreement and call off the strike only to embark on another one again
in the next few months.”
Ubani, who addressed the press alongside other members of his executive council, said the strike
was a blow to the educational system and that it was caused by the Federal Government’s misplaced priorities.
He said, “We are confused with the priorities of this government. While they said they have no money to
rescue our educational sector, they are busy buying another jet to add to the fleet already owned by the Presidency and organising jamboree of high
class women in Abuja with millions of naira.”

Deputy Director, Operations of The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Tunde Lemo, has said the
bank will take delivery of new Naira notes
before the end of September for circulation.
The News Agency Of Nigeria reports that The Apex bank had earlier said that new Naira notes would be in circulation by June, and that
the smaller denomination notes (N5, N10, N20, and N50) would be reprinted on paper.
“The public will get a large quantity of the new notes to replace the old and mutilated notes, particularly the higher denomination notes in the first instance, then later the lower
denominations,’’ he said.
On the scarcity of the lower denomination notes, Lemo blamed commercial banks for what he called “poor circulation’’.
“For the lower denomination; well, I think the banks are really the ones that are not allowing the lower denomination in circulation, largely, because of the carrying value. Most people don’t require small
denomination. But for buying things in the market, if you look at the veracity, you find out that the N50 circulate more than the smaller ones,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Lemo has urged law enforcement agencies to arrest all illegal hawkers of new Naira notes.
He also called on commercial banks to keep watchful eyes on their staff to avoid being used as conduit for illegal transfer of new notes to unauthorised hands. Lemo said this should be done to ensure effective protection of the currency from abuse.
“We have done all we can do in the sense that we have criminalised this in the 2007 Act. It is clear that if you hawk notes, if you abuse the currency, it is a criminal offence and it is
punishable. Hence, we expect law enforcement agencies to do
the arrest. We don’t have power to arrest. We know it is going on,’’ he said. Lemo said commercial banks should “dispense and pay their customers with new notes’’.
He said the apex bank had carried out
sensitisation campaigns to inform the public and warn them about the dangers of patronising hawkers. “I think that is the limit the central bank can go,’’ the deputy governor

Also in this edition is the CEO of YBNL, the current rave of the moment, Olamide. We spend three hours getting to know about the man, his music and what drives him. Furthermore, there are in depth analyses of the music scene and spotlight on artistes with potential to become huge stars in the near future.”

Iyanya was a guest on Channel Tv’s Youth Program, “Rubbing Minds” yesterday afternoon where he stated to the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, “I would dine with Genevieve, die for Yvonne Nelson and dust off Tonto Dikeh”. 1st of all, what does ‘dust off’ mean? Secondly, seeing Yvonne Nelson’s picture @ the Premier of her 3rd self produced movie “House of Gold” held at Silverbird Cinemas in a beautiful Mai Atafo gown on Friday July 19th, I surely won’t doubt anyone who says he’ll die for this screen goddess.
Few days ago, Forbes Magazine (created in 1917) released their annual ‘Highest Paid Hollywood Actors’ list for 2013. See what the top 10 actors earned between June 2012 & June 2013…..
1. Robert Downey Jr – $75million (Iron Man 3, The Avengers)
2. Channing Tatun – $60million (Magic Mike, White House Down)
3. Hugh Jackman – $55million (Les Miserables, X-Men)
4. Mark Wahlberg – $52 million (Ted)
5. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – $42million (Fast & Furious 6, Pain and Gain, Journey 2: the Mysterious Island)
6. Leonardo DiCaprio – $39million (Great Gatsby)
